Wella Professionals have just released INVIGO a fantastic new range of haircare products that quickly and effectively rejuvenates hair. In just a few minutes, tired hair comes back to life! 

Curious to find out more about INVIGO we spoke to Jayne Nelson, from Veronica Jayne in Palmerston North to find out what they thought about this amazing new innovation.

Tell us about all about the salon, how long has Veronica Jayne been operating and how did you get started? 

I purchased the salon in April 2009, it’s a small suburban salon located in the Hokowhitu Village. We started with three team members, myself, my daughter Aimee and one apprentice.

The salon was in need of a revamp, so in February 2010 we gutted it and did the most amazing refit! 

Veronica Jayne really came to life. We then had Aimee, myself and three apprentices! 

We expanded into the shop next door in 2014, doubled our floor size, managed another refit and double our staff size. We now have a staff of eleven; six seniors, three apprentices and two support staff. 

What do you believe is the main point of difference Veronica Jayne offers clientele? 

We are a family based business. My daughter Aimee and niece Kyra (both Senior Stylists) are a huge part of our vision and growth, taking on training and managerial roles. My late father, Ray Thorby, was a salon owner who trained my sister, Dara and myself. We are a living legacy – five Wella hairdressers over three generations!

I really believe in offering every client an amazing experience, and I think we do this well. We are a very happy team in a warm and welcoming environment, with a holistic hair care approach. Our clients relax and enjoy their visit and we love making their time with us special.

As a team, we focus on education and fun, supporting our local community and we plan at least one client function a year. We always try to accommodate what our clients need and are open late three nights a week. Many of our clients book their appointments for the calendar year, securing premium times. 

How has the salon benefited from being part of the Wella family? 

Veronica Jayne has always been a Wella salon. We love the brand and all the support that comes from them, the Wella family is incredible. Lynda Reid, our Rep, is a wonderful friend and mentor of our business. So much of our growth has come from the support received over the last nine years. Wella backs us in all that we do!

We are really enjoying INVIGO. It is fresh and new and is beautifully packaged, with a fabulous fragrance.

So many of our clients have such busy lives that I love the messaging behind the range, the idea of taking time to recharge and enjoy the experience whilst also delivering great results. 

We find it sits very well with our other major ranges, rounding out our offering. 

We currently offer System Professional energising haircare range, an exclusive prescriptive and treatment based range of haircare and styling, Sebastian Professional for fabulous styling, NIOXIN for strengthening and growth and EIMI a range that has a styling product for everyone! 

INVIGO offers the perfect high-performance care offering for our ‘on-the-go’ clients – who are loving the convenience option of the take-home products.

Of all the new INVIGO range of products which one impressed you the most?

The INVIGO high-performance treatment boosters, as they are so easy to use – the mix of super ingredients and vitamins also mean that they deliver great results. 

We can add them to a mask, or conditioner, or spritz them directly onto the hair, literally adding a ‘boost’ to each treatment. 

Is there a favourite INVIGO product?

The whole team has played with the boosters and loved the way their hair looked and felt afterwards. That sort of excitement just flows onto our clients, the speed of the service is a great selling point. 

How have your clients received the new range, any feedback?

We have several hero products already and the range has only been on our shelves a week! The colour toning shampoos and conditioners are very popular – especially Blonde Recharge – and the Volume Boost Crystal Mask with cotton extract is fantastic for fine hair.

We have even run an INVIGO Facebook competition which had great engagement, the product looks great on Instagram! The team really enjoy sharing the excitement of a new range with our clients, it means everyone is engaged, educated and having fun!

Have you found being based in Palmerston North easy for training and educating staff? 

We do face challenges at times with training, usually because of time and distance constraints. However, we make it work with regular salon-based training for our apprentices, external tutoring for specific cutting education. 

We attend as many Wella education sessions as possible and are big fans of TrendVision! Although we are unable to go this year, out Wella reps are great at tailoring their time to us, and often cross over into education and motivation needs too. 

Describe some of the challenges that you face running a modern day salon? 

My challenges are definitely fewer now that I have Aimee and Kyra taking on more of the day-to-day. I’m spending less time on the floor and more time developing the business.

We have weekly staff meetings and regular social events for fun, team building, discussing any problems and client feedback, delegating so that everyone is engaged and happy. Full team involvement is the key to success! 

What are the hairstyles that your customers crying out for? 

Styles for spring are great as it’s a time to focus on experimenting with colour change and style, or take the chance to indulge in a treatment to revive the hair after winter.

Clients are enjoying strong shapes and pastel tones are often popular. We are also seeing clients wanting a real shine to their hair, with many having a toner with every visit. Our clients’ concerns for hair health seems to have rocketed in the last year or so, with greater concern over the condition of their hair especially when colouring and styling – enter INVIGO!
